Notable Achievements: Dan Zanes and Friends’ Catch That Train! was the 2007 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Album for Children. Sea Music was cited in Rolling Stone’s Hot Issue in the category of Hot Maritime Sounds.

Bio:

Dan Zanes was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1961, and started playing guitar when he was 8. He was in The Del Fuegos from the beginning to end of the ’80s and with them made The Longest Day, Boston, Mass, Stand Up, Smoking in the Fields, and the hit single, “Don’t Run Wild.” In 1994, he released a solo CD, Cool Down Time, followed by Rocket Ship Beach in 2000 and Family Dance in 2001. He collaborated with several artists on Night Time!, then made the Grammy-nominated House Party. These were followed up by Sea Music; Parades and Panoramas: 25 Songs Collected by Carl Sandburg for The American Songbag; All Around the Kitchen!; It’s a Bam Bam Diddly!; and most recently, ¡Nueva York!

Zanes also co-authored two picture book collaborations with the artist Donald Saaf, Jump Up! and Hello Hello. He makes homemade family music and encourages similar behaviors in friends and neighbors. He’s currently writing songs for films, developing a children’s musical television show for Playhouse Disney and planning for his next recording project.
