The Dollyrots were founded by Kelly Ogden and Luis Cabezas, who had known each other since the 8th grade. Originally the group was created for fun while the two were attending New College of Florida. The onus to go professional was made due to the results of the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election. As a result the pair soon embarked on a road trip to find a new home to accommodate their musical aspirations. On January 2002 after visiting various cities they finally settled on Los Angeles as their base of operations. The Dollyrots quickly achieved success, self-releasing their debut album, Eat My Heart Out, and even getting their own HP commercial performing the song "Feed Me, Pet Me." The subsequent buzz led to The Dollyrots being signed by Lookout!/Panic Button Records, who re-released Eat My Heart Out in 2004. In 2006 The Dollyrots switched labels to Blackheart records as well as replacing departing drummer Amy Wood with Chris Black.
Because I'm Awesome is the second studio album by pop band The Dollyrots. It was released on March 13, 2007 on Blackheart Records. Tracks featured in TV shows include "Because I'm Awesome," featured on Ugly Betty and "Watch Me Go (Kissed Me, Killed Me)," featured on The Simple Life. The song "Because I'm Awesome" was also featured in a back-to-school commercial for Kohl's department store. The band performed "Because I'm Awesome" on an episode of Greek as well.
