Injured Marine Receives Special Guitar

According to San Diego's, a Marine nearly killed in an explosion in Afghanistan received a special guitar recently.

Cpl. Brad C. Fite suffered head, spinal and intestinal injuries in a July 20, 2010, explosion and even though doctors told him he would be unable to walk, he is walking again.

"It was a very moving, moving story for us to listen to so we were glad to step up," said Ken Fisher, who is with the Nice Guys of San Diego group.

Fisher said he and other members of the group knew right away they wanted to help Fite.

"[He] was flown back near death many times on his way back being evacuated out and he made a miraculous recovery from those injuries," said Fisher.

Fite mentioned he wanted a Mac computer and a very specific guitar from Taylor Guitars, which is based in San Diego.

The Nice Guys of San Diego, state Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher and state Sen. Joel Anderson made sure Fite received the Mac. On Saturday, they surprised Fite with the Jason Mraz signature model guitar. The guitar he had only dreamed about was now his.

"Wow, how beautiful this is," said Fite as he played on the guitar. "It is beautiful."

Fletcher said it was an example of the strength of the community.

"We got a San Diego-based company – Taylor Guitars – that wants to step up and help a wounded warrior," said Fletcher. To read more click here.
