May 3-7 is National Wanna Play Music Week
The first week of May is when we celebrate National Wanna Play Music Week!
And if you've always wished you could play a musical instrument but for whatever reason haven't done it yet -- this is your chance!
Or maybe you used to play, but life got moving too fast and you just stopped doing it. Well, it's never too late to get back into music and enjoy its many scientifically proven benefits.
Beginning on May 3, 2010, here are a few of the ways you can participate in the fun of National Wanna Play Music Week.
Music Monday, May 3 - Register to participate in Music Monday, to demonstrate the importance of music education programs throughout North America and your commitment to experiencing the proven benefits that music making can bring to your life. The event kicks off National Wanna Play Music Week, and encourages everyone across North America to play music with others at the same time, or pick up an instrument of your choice and jam at any time on that day.
Tuesday, May 4 - On this day, make sure you are checking for updates on the Wanna Play By NAMM facebook page and Wanna Play By NAMM Twitter feed to see where the secret music-making flash mobs will be taking place around the nation! These impromptu jam sessions will be welcoming everyone who always wanted to pick up an instrument to participate in their own special way and connect with the art and soul of playing music. Shhh...it's a secret!
Wednesday, May 5 - Everyone starts somewhere, and chances are it's in music class. To recognize that fact, the NAMM Foundation will announce its "Best Communities for Music Education," honoring U.S. schools and communities that work hard to make music a part of a complete education for every child.Your local music education program could be one of the honorees!
Thursday, May 6 - You'd be surprised by how many celebrities (including actors, authors, sports stars and politicians) also play music just for fun. www.wannaplaymusic.com will feature many of these "unexpected celebrity musicians" in creative ways on this day. Don't forget to check the site!
Friday, May 7 - So many musical dreams start in the most humble of places. That's why we're wrapping up National Wanna Play Music Week by honoring the hub of all things musical, the local community music store. If you have never visited your local music store, check for updates on this site, and on the Wanna Play By NAMM facebook and Twitter page for special promotions on this day for non-musicians who are ready to venture out to see the vast array of instruments and products that await them!
